All you need to know about the NDA exam.

NDA National Defence Academy is carried by the  Union Public Service Commission to choose candidates for Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy Course. The exam for the National Defence Academy & Naval Academy is conducted every year twice.


Women are also eligible for admission to the National Defence Academy after completing Class 12.

All the candidates need to meet the criteria to be eligible.

A citizen of India, A subject of Nepal or Bhutan can also apply.

NDA Age Limit and Marital Status

The minimum age is 16 years and the maximum age is 19 years.

NDA Eligibility Criteria: Educational Qualification.

For the Army Wing of NDA, Exam candidates should have passed  10+2 exams from a recognized board or a University.

For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy, the candidates should have passed Class 12th with Physics and Mathematics from the recognized boards. University.

Candidates, if failed in INSB / PABT previously, will not be eligible for recruitment in the Air Force, Indian Army, and Indian Navy.

Candidates studying in Class 12 at the time of application, must present proof of passing the exam by the deadline.

To Apply Online for NDA Exam 2021

 To apply the candidates has to visit the official website and follow the instruction.

The next step is to click on “Click Here for PART I” and read the instructions thoroughly. Once you have read the instructions then click on yes.

Fill in the personal details and click on continue.

The next is to choose the preference.

After the preference, you have to pay the application fees.

After paying the application fees you can select the examination center and you have to upload the photograph and the signature.

Make sure to download and take a printout for future reference.

Fees for the Form.

In order to complete the application form, certain fees have to be paid. This can be both online and offline. The fees can be paid online or offline in any SBI branch by cash or through net banking, Visa, Mastercard, Rupay Credit, or Debit Card.

Educational qualification for Navy, Airforce, and the Army Wing.

Must have completed Class 12 or HSC exam under the 10+2 pattern from the recognized board or university.

Eligibility for  Foreign Nationals

For any foreign nationals wanting to apply for the exam, the eligibility certificate has to be issued from the Govt of India.

Documents required for the NDA Application Form.

  1. NDA application form printout.
  2. Proof of the payment.
  3. Required scanned copy of the photograph and signature.
  4. Photo ID card(Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Voter Card, School Photo ID, Driving Licence, Passport).
  5. If you have done an online transaction then a copy of the bank details is required.
  6. Marksheet of classes 10and 12 and the admit card are required.

Tips to download the admit card.

  1. First, you have to go to the official website of UPSC.
  2. Click on the Link for NDA Admit Card Download.
  3.  Then enter the registration number and the roll number with password and captcha.
  4. When you click on submit you can see the admit card appearing on the screen.
  5. Check all the details and download the copies.

The information present in the NDA admit card is below.

  1. Name of the applicant.
  2. Date of birth of the candidates
  3. Roll number
  4. Signature and photograph of the applicants.
  5. Exam Date.
  6. Reporting time.
  7. Exam Timings.
  8. Centre and City for the Exam.
  9. Centre code.
  10. Photo ID has been submitted in the NDA application form.

Documents to be brought to the exam center along with the admit card are  Aadhaar Card, Driving License, Two Passport size photographs, Voter ID card, Pan card, College or School ID card.

Subject-wise syllabus for the exam.

Analytical Geometry includes the chapters like Rectangular Cartesian Coordinate system, Distance formula. Equation of a line in various forms, The angle between the two lines, The angle between the two lines. The distance of a point from a line, Equation of a circle in standard and a general form, Standard forms of parabola, A point in a three-dimensional space,  Equation two points. equation of a plane and a line in various forms. Equation of a sphere.The angle between two lines and the angle between two planes.ellipse, and hyperbola, Eccentricity and axis of a conic, the distance between two points.

Algebra has the chapters such as Concept of set, operations on sets, Venn diagrams, De Morgan laws,  Cartesian product, relation, equivalence relation. modulus, argument, cube roots of unity., Arithmetic, 19 Geometric and Harmonic progressions, Quadratic equations with real coefficients, Permutation and Combination, Binomial theorem and its applications. Logarithms and their applications.The solution of linear inequalities of two variables by graphs, a Binary system of numbers,

Trigonometry has angles and their measures in degrees and radians, Trigonometric ratios, Trigonometric identities Sum and difference formulae, Multiple and Sub-multiple angles, Inverse trigonometric functions, Applications-Height and distance, properties of triangles.

Matrices & Determinants consists of Types of matrices, operations on matrices, The determinant of a matrix, basic properties of determinants, Adjoint and inverse of a square matrix,

The syllabus for the General Ability Test is English, Physics, Chemistry, and General Science.

English includes the topics like grammar and usage, vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, and cohesion in extended text to test the candidate’s proficiency in English.

Physics consists of  Density, and Specific Gravity, Principle of Archimedes, Pressure Barometer, The motion of objects, Velocity and Acceleration, Newton’s Laws of Motion, Force and Momentum, Parallelogram of Forces, change of State and Latent Heat, Modes of transference of Heat, Sound waves and their properties, Simple musical instruments. Rectilinear propagation of Light, Reflection, and refraction, Spherical mirrors and Lenses, Human Eye. Natural and Artificial Magnets, Properties of a Magnet, Earth as a Magnet, Static and Current Electricity, conductors and Nonconductors, Ohm’s Law, Simple Electrical Circuits, Heating, Lighting and Magnetic effects of Current, Measurement of Electrical Power, Primary and Secondary Cells, Use of X-Rays. General Principles in the working of the following: Simple Pendulum, Simple Pulleys, Siphon, Levers, Balloon, Pumps, Hydrometer, Pressure Cooker, Thermos Flask, Gramophone, Telegraphs, Telephone, Periscope, Telescope, Microscope, Mariner’s Compass; Lightning Conductors, Safety Fuses.Physical Properties and States of Matter.

Chemistry consists of Physical and Chemical changes. Elements, Mixtures and Compounds, Symbols, Formulae and simple Chemical Equations, Law of Chemical Combination (excluding problems). Properties of Air and Water, Preparation and Properties of Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen and Carbon dioxide, Oxidation and Reduction. Acids, bases, and salts, Carbon—different forms, Fertilizers—Natural and Artificial, The material used in the preparation of substances like Soap, Glass, Ink, Paper, Cement, Paints, Safety Matches and GunPowder, Elementary ideas about the structure of Atom, Atomic Equivalent and Molecular Weights, Valency.

General Science has the chapters Difference between the living and nonliving. Basis of Life—Cells, Protoplasms and Tissues, Growth and Reproduction in Plants and Animals. Elementary knowledge of the Human Body and its important organs, Common Epidemics, their causes, and prevention, Food—Source of Energy for man. Constituents of food, Balanced Diet, The Solar System—Meteors and Comets, Eclipses. Achievements of Eminent Scientists.
